Wednesday Weekly Devotional

By Pastor Sarah Winter

Being a Christian is like Being a Pumpkin

God picks you from the patch and brings you in…
“You didn’t choose me.  I chose you.  I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”  John 15:16

…then He washes all of the dirt off of you.
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person.  The old life is gone a new life has begun!”  2 Corinthians 5:!7

He opens you up and scoops out all the yucky stuff.  He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, fear and everything else that separates us from Him.
“We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives.  We are no longer slaves to sin.”  Romans 6:6

Then he carves you a new smiling face.
“I will shout joy and sing your praises, for you have ransomed me.”  Psalm 71:23

And He puts His light inside of you to shine for all of the world to see.
“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.”  Matthew 5:16

As we are out in our neighborhoods this week and see the jack-o-lanterns on porches, may we remember that God lovingly chose each and every one of us and carved us uniquely and exactly the way he designed us to be.  It is through His strength and power that we are able to shine our lights as a lantern to warm everyone we see!

Amen.
